Keynote speaker: Jonathan Kozol, author and activist
Jonathan Kozol is a non-fiction writer, educator, and activist, best known for his books on public education in the United States. After being fired from Boston Public Schools for teaching a Langston Hughes poem, he became deeply involved in the civil rights movement. He taught for several more years in Newton Public Schools, before becoming more deeply involved in social justice work and his writing. event details

 

NAACP: Celebrating a Century

100 for 100 CampaignOn February 12, 1909, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People was founded by a multiracial group of activists who answered "The Call" in New York, NY to renew the struggle for civil and political liberty.

Join us in 2009 for a series of Celebrating a Century events. Support our 100-year anniversary by becoming a 100 for 100 Contributor. We are looking for 100 people to give $100 in recognition of our first 100 years. Contributions include Branch membership for one year and two tickets to a reception with Jonathan Kozol on April 29 (please see above).
